It’s not every day you’re asked to design a structure to host a swimming pool, and of course it brings its own unique set of challenges.
One of the obstacles to overcome with pool houses is humidity, so materials and finishes need to be able to withstand temperature variations. Then there’s the issue of the chemicals used in the pool itself, which means avoiding materials such as limestone. Other practicalities are acoustics, maintenance and ventilation.
From a design perspective I needed to consider how the structure would sit within the landscape as well as the proximity to the main house. The client wanted a combination of roof lights to flood the space with light, and we used some spot lights and recessed lighting for some indulgent night time swimming.
