In today’s post, we’re diving into an exciting renovation project in the charming area of Penn Hill, Poole. This detached house, located right on the edge of Poole Harbour, presents a fantastic opportunity for a modern redesign, maximizing both space and light.
The existing layout includes a breakfast room, a conservatory, and a lounge across the back, but lacks a utility room. Conservatories often face issues with temperature control, becoming too hot in the summer and too cold in the winter. Our goal is to eliminate the conservatory and reconfigure the ground floor to create a more functional and appealing space.
We start by planning an extension across the back of the house, adding up to three meters to the living space. This extension allows us to reorient the house to take advantage of the west-facing sun, flooding the new living space with natural light during the afternoons and evenings. The new design includes an open-plan living area, with a well-placed kitchen featuring a large island and ample workspace.
One of the key improvements is the creation of a utility room and shower room accessible from the garden, providing a practical solution for a busy household. Additionally, the garage will be partially converted to accommodate these new features while retaining space for storage or parking.
Upstairs, the house currently has three bedrooms, but we explore the potential for a first-floor extension to add a fourth bedroom. This would not only increase the living space but also add significant value to the property.
This transformation turns a traditional detached house into a modern, open-plan home, perfect for contemporary living. Stay tuned for more detailed updates and insights into the design process!
